MORGANTOWN, W.Va — With Oklahoma State paying a visit on Saturday, West Virginia coach Bob Huggins said this season’s Mountaineers have yet to self-motivate to the level of giving consistent effort.
“It’s not like they don’t know; it’s not like they haven’t heard it,” Huggins said. “They kind of regurgitate everything that coaches say right back to you guys. It sounds good, but do they mean it?”

He's right...they do take a lot of plays off. At times they look out of shape and very confused. With experience and gym work they will get where they need to be.
When Da was younger he definitely took plays off. But if you look at his career stats, his stats improved over the 4 year period (so did his minutes played). When you put the work in and buy into the system good things happen.

your exactly right tom, they are flunkies. Pretty much every one of them. Got a big break being recruited by WVU cause most would, if even there, only made Div. II. It's very difficult to recruit to WVU and place's like it. Had a good run a few years ago and it translated into this class of low tallent and poor attitude recruits.
Huggie needs to get out of the box and recruit shooters who need better ball handling skills but go for those that first and formost can hit three's, free throws and an open jumber. We can teach them how to dribble, pass and block when they get here.
A long term program committed to shooters first that need devolopment of ball handling skills is the only way to inprove our recruiting possibilities down the road because we don't have what it takes in WV to recruit top tallent untill players see a pipeline to the NBA due to quality coaching.

Huggs statement might be true, but i think it would be said better behind closed doors to the players. One Retired Football Coach from WVU always said he would never embrass his players in The Media. If you stop and think its reflection on The Coach that made the statement.Nice way to make them feel good about themselves.I will be glad when this season IS OVER.

Hey Bob needs to shut up and coach. He needs to quit embarassing his players and the program.
I love Huggs but he's wrong. Quit yelling and quit running the bus over them in public.
Show some class and save jumpin their back sides for practice. If he's not careful none of the good recruits are going to want to play for him.
He had a bad year and misjudged his recruits. Take the heat and get to work but don't blame the kids.

Did you hear where Bowlsby said the Big 12 is quite content to stay at 10 teams for quite some time.
I would love to ask O. Luck if that's his sentiment as well. We need teams closer to us to even out some of the travel we're having to endure.
Money is okay but we want to compete and be on top as much as the rest so a couple of east coast teams would help to balance our travel woes.

Huggs is a very good coach. With over 700 wins, his record speaks for itself. Oliver Luck is a very savy businessman and I believe he will do great things for the university. I did watch Duke and Va Tech the other night and Huggs and the team should take some pointers from Duke. They played aggressive defense, rebounded well, and did it without constantly fouling. They also shot lights out. Huggs needs to stop bereating his players. That will not bring out their best effort. Just look at their body language during the games.

I've come to the conclusion that most people see Hugg's behavior on and off the court as it pertains to bereating his players . I also believe he's not going to change. He seems to almost ramp it up at times. I don't think he can change his ways. He's pretty hardheaded.

no one likes a season like this one. But huggie is making it worse by hanging all the guilt on the players,, remember last year, he was saying that team did things he'd never seen done before, he just did'n't know how they played so badly. Well this year, he's still blaming them, and what about next year...
BE CLASSY BOB, TAKE THE HEAT OFF THE PLAYERS, you sound like an insure kid, hoping no one is blaming you... you have a lifetime job, isn't that enough.

Once again we see Huggins throwing his players under the bus. And No, they are not taking plays off. That ridiculous. They are just average street players who cannot consistently compete on this level.
It’s not that they are not putting forth the effort; they are just not very good. So instead of Huggins accepting the blame for his inability to recruit top division 1 talent, he blames all of the losses on his players.
Yes…lets blame it all on the players…
”They’re lazy and they"are taking plays off”.
Those type of remarks directed toward his players are low even for Huggins.
Here’s a thought… Maybe Huggs' old school motivational methods don't work anymore with these pampered generation of kids these days. No, that’s not it either.
Whatever Huggins is doing…it ain’’t workin and the players are not to blame. At the end of the day, anyway you look at it, Huggins is just not getting it done.
The 3 Million Dollar Iconic coach is not only Overpaid, but he is also Overrated and Overweight….and It doesn't take a PhD or Doctorate wall paper to decipher that. Sorry…

you are dead wrong. You put huggs in say an ohio state, kentucky, duke, florida or the like the outcome would be very different. He is a quality coach but lets be real. What does WVU and the state of WV really have to offer a blue chip recruit? Trout fishing? snow? A mine tour? Seriously, The lake of being able to recruit top tallent didn't just start with him. It's allways been this way. Look at the football team. They got a top notch coach in dana with a winning system that has put other schools on the map and nearly played for national titles but he can't get but a hand full of good recruits convinced to come here. Is that his fault? No, it's because unless we can get to the point were we are in the mix for titles year in and year out we have nothing else to offer as an incentive to come here.

he looks hungover. he said he would fix this but can not. seems the blame should fall on him. he is the coach, he recruited these players, or at least had them recruited. man up huggings and sober up.

Before anybody Fixes anything, you have to Fix Yourself. It Starts at The Top.When you point a finger at anybody, remember the other 4 are Pointing Back At You.Somebody needs to ask Huggs what would he do IF HE WAS THE AD,AND WATCHED THIS. That would be intersting. But i know Huggs,he would say, well I'm not The AD so it makes no difference what I think.NEXT QUESTION.As you can hear him Breathing into the microphone.
