Looking For Dominant Play

Audio Included Tony Caridi: Louisville Preview
The WVU Mountaineers will look to bounce back from last week's loss to South Florida when they face the Louisville Cardinals Saturday afternoon in Morgantown.

The 6-2 Mountaineers are 2-1 in the Big East Conference with games remaining against the Cardinals Saturday, at Cincinnati, home against Pitt and at Rutgers before the regular season ends in early December.

Mountaineer Sports Network Play-by-Play announcer Tony Caridi says backloading the schedule is done by the conference to get its potentially best match-ups at the end. "You'd like to have maybe got one of the toughest challenges earlier in October, but other teams are in a similar situation," he said.

Caridi says West Virginia must get its key offensive players rolling again. It's looking for a big final stretch run from both quarterback Jarrett Brown and running back Noel Devine. "Either he (Devine) or Jarrett (Brown) needs to become a dominant player," Caridi maintains. "We didn't have either of those two play dominant roles last week, but I think that has to happen not only (Saturday) but also the rest of the season for the Mountaineers to be successful."

WVU Coach Bill Stewart has preached all week he's more concerned about how his team plays Saturday that he is about Louisville. Caridi says the loss to South Florida has put a funk over Mountaineer Nation for most of the week, but by all accounts it’s been a good week of practice in Morgantown.

Louisville could play any one of three quarterbacks, but Caridi says the offense doesn't change a whole lot. "For the most part of the offensive philosophy remains the same,” he said.

It's expected to be a beautiful day for football in Morgantown. Sunny skies and 58 degrees are in the forecast for the noon kick-off.

The Mountaineers are undefeated at home this season.
