The mother of a man shot and killed by Charleston Police after a high speed chase is now suing the city of Charleston.
Patricia Harrison filed her suit in Kanawha County Circuit Court Friday. She alleges the senior officer on the shift on the night of September 11th should have called off the pursuit of her son Brian Good. Officers chased good for several miles late in the evening from downtown Charleston to a remote location in northern Kanawha County.
The pursuit ended when Good was cornered and began using his pickup truck as a battering ram on police cruisers. Officers opened fire and killed Good. One of those shots also struck Patrolman Jerry Jones, killing him.
Harold Albertson represents Mrs. Harrison and says police failed to follow proper procedures and should have called off the chase.
Charleston Mayor Danny Jones says he welcomes the chance to take the case to court. The President of the Charleston FOP agrees and believes officers were well within the bounds of their duty when the used lethal force that night. He says the contention can be proven in court and will show that the officers were trying to get a very dangerous individual off the streets that night.
