A Morgantown lawyer faces charges after police say he beat another lawyer at the Marion County Courthouse Tuesday.
Stephen Sean Murphy, 45, is charged with malicious assault following an altercation with attorney Scott Radman.
Marion County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Ralph Wright said the fight broke out between 2:30 and 3 p.m. Tuesday. However, he said it is unclear what sparked the dispute.
“We just don’t know,” he said. “We can’t explain it right now.”
The two attorneys did not appear to be involved in a case together, Wright said.
Radman was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital where he was treated for his wounds. Wright said Radman was in good condition and expected to be released Wednesday.
Murphy beat Radman on the head and face, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Murphy has been arraigned on the charges and released on $10,000 bond. He will have a preliminary hearing within the next 20 days, Wright said.
A call to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office was not returned Wednesday.

Will be interesting to discover what caused this altercation. Maybe it was competition for a case. Seems to be a lot of lawyers out there. Maybe just not enough dirt to keep all the BMW payments current.

That's funny. It's really hard for lawyer to send another lawyer to jail.

I don't know what's worse. A nutsy lawyer attacking an unsuspecting man or 5 comments, each of which is meant to be funny.

Really!!
Beverly, an "unsuspecting man?" Too bad the news doesn't report both sides, or follow-up to investigations, leaving John Q. Public to make up their own scenarios as noted above... But (some of) your comments are giggle-worthy ... others are just laughable. Thanks for sharing.
