A Martinsburg woman is dead after allegedly pointing a handgun at Martinsburg Police early Friday morning.

Investigators say the woman, identified as Tiffany Overholser, 45, had called police at around 3:00 a.m. Friday claiming another woman was holding her at gunpoint.

When two officers arrived at the house to answer the call, they say they saw someone looking through the blinds but did not approach the front door.

Soon after, they say Overholser came out of the door and pointed a handgun at the officers.

Both of the officers shot the woman when she took several steps toward them.

Martinsburg Police later determined Overholser was not being held hostage when she called for assistance.  The other people who were in the home were asleep at the time.

According to information from MetroNews Affiliate WEPM Radio in Martinsburg, Overholser was pronounced dead after being taken to Martinsburg City Hospital.

State Police are investigating.
