A group of Mineral County high school students have left their mark in Washington D.C.
The Frankfort High School Falcon Marching Band out of Short Gap played in front of President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and many others Monday evening at the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Parade.
Frankfort High was scheduled towards the end of the parade so West Virginians had to wait awhile to see them perform.
But around 6:30 p.m., the seventy member band got it’s chance to play God Bless America on the national stage in front of the President.
The band was one of 59 groups that took part in the parade down Pennsylvania Avenue following the swearing-in ceremony at the Capitol.
In total, more than 8,800 people and close to 200 animals took part in the parade.
The inaugural parade tradition dates back to the first inauguration of President George Washington, though it has changed in a number of ways over the centuries.
