West Virginia junior center Aaric Murray was named Big 12 Rookie of the Week on Monday, after averaging 11 points and 8.5 rebounds in two wins for the Mountaineers. The transfer from LaSalle contributed 15 points, seven boards, one block and one steal as West Virginia knocked off previously unbeaten Virginia Tech 68-67 on Saturday.
Earlier in the week, Murray grabbed 10 rebounds and scored seven points along with two blocks in a 69-59 victory over in-state rival Marshall.
The league’s player of the week was Kansas State guard Rodney McGruder, who had 15 points and 11 rebounds in a 65-62 victory at George Washington — his fifth career double-double.
