Newly appointed state senator officially takes his seat.

State Senator Robert “Rocky” Fitzsimmons was sworn in Monday morning replacing former Senator Orphy Klempa who resigned in December.

Fitzsimmons will be representing the First Senatorial District comprised of Brooke, Hancock, and Ohio counties as well as part of Marshall County.

Governor Earl Ray Tomblin appointed Fitzsimmons to the open seat last month to fill the unexpired four-year term that extends through 2014.

Fitzsimmons holds a bachelor’s degree in biochemical engineering from Washington University and obtained his law degree from Wake Forest University

He currently practices law with Fitzsimmons Law Firm PLLC in Wheeling.
