A fundraiser conducted by Papa Johns Pizza for the families of Corporal Marshall Bailey and Trooper Eric Workman was a success.

The fundraiser, which was conducted on December 18, 2012, resulted in $4,700 being raised for each family.

The West Virginia State Police has thanked Praveen Srinivasan and his Papa Johns stores across West Virginia for assisting the families through the fundraiser.

This is a very nice thing to do for the families of the fallen troopers but $4700.00 is a drop in the bucket to the benefits they have already received. Under the federal "Public Safety Officers Benefit Act" they will have received a pay out of close to $500,000.00 because they lost their lives in the line of duty. In addition troopers also have insurance coverage from the state. The families could have received almost $1 million or more in cash payouts. Additionally they are due survivers benefits paid monthly.
It is fine that people want to help but any policeman (fireman, EMT, etc.) who is killed in the line of duty does not leave their family penniless.
