Gameday Blog: UConn

Late start on the blog...also late arriving crowd. I guess everyone is reminicing in the parking lot for Homecoming. Looks like the weather is going to be dreary, but no rain...yet.

11:37
Oh yeah, and Jarrett Brown is going to start today...as if you didn't already know that. Coach Stewart tried to play coy all week and act like Brown was day-to-day, but it was evident by Tuesday that he was going to play.

12:05
A nice standing ovation from the WVU fans for the Connecticut football team as they ran onto the field. The WVU students signed a banner that says, "We are all Huskies" and posted it along the tunnel. Wide receiver Kashif Moore and running back Andre Dixon carried Jasper Howard's jersey and helmet onto the field before a moment of silence. Too bad a writer for a certain website had to talk during the moment of silence here in the press box.

12:12
What can I say about Tavon Austin's 97 yard kickoff return for a touchdown other than that kid is freakin' fast! Two defenders had the angle on him and he still ran right by both of them. That is the surest way to nip an emotional start by UConn in the bud.

12:29
UConn cornerback Robert McClain, who leads the Big East with four interceptions this season, was not in the last two series. He did, however, return the last punt. There are two redshirt Freshmen in at cornerback for UConn, so look for WVU to try and take advantage of those matchups.

12:34
Great block by UConn receiver Brad Kanuch on that Jordan Todman TD run.

1:07
The UConn defense is doing a great job keying on Noel Devine. They are also taking away the deep routes. Really the Mountaineer offense is struggling unlike I've seen before this season.

1:34
WVU had 79 total yards before an 81 yard, ten play drive that ended in a five yard Brown TD run. Other than that drive the Mountaineers couldn't move the ball.

2:16
WVU's offense looks better here in the second half...bad thing is, so does UConn's. Both teams able to move the ball but both missed field goals. That 42-yarder missed by Bitancurt was his first miss of the season.

Also learned at halftime that Kashif Moore, who caught the UConn TD pass at the end of the first half, was the player holding Jasper Howard as he died.

2:22
Excellent blocks by Jarrett Brown and Jock Sanders on Devine's 62 yard run. Great play call on the play action to Ryan Clarke at the goal line.

2:29
Reed Williams is still out of the game...he's missed the last three series at least. He has a heavy wrap on his left arm/shoulder.
