Police in South Charleston say a teenage girl was killed early Sunday morning after being struck by a CSX train.

CSX says the two-engine train was traveling from Mira, Kentucky to Weldon, Virginia when it passed through South Charleston at a few minutes after midnight.

South Charleston Mayor Frank Mullens says a girl, who was a student at South Charleston High School, walked into the path of the train near Chestnut and McClung streets in what the mayor describes as an apparent suicide.

CSX confirms the accident but has referred all other questions to the South Charleston Police Dept.

The train had 90 freight cars.

How horrible. I had serious thoughts of suicide when I was 17. I came very close to doing it, but abandoned the idea at the very last second. Life seemed so hopeless then. I am an adult, married, with my own children and a thriving career.

Teens, please, PLEASE do not think life is so bad you cannot go on. You have your entire life ahead of you. So much promise! PLEASE talk to someone when you feel that depressed.

So sad. Prayers for this young girl and those that cared about her. Suicide is something I've fought against in my life. This is so tragic.
