Teenager who allegedly created scare in custody

U.S. Marshals say a Marion County teenager was taken into custody Friday evening after his alleged email created a scare in north central West Virginia Friday.

The 17-year-old student at Notre Dame High School in Clarksburg was located by authorities at Valley Falls State Park near Fairmont at just before six o’clock Friday evening. Fairmont police officers say he will face charges.

The boy did not have a gun when he was found.

Investigators say the student sent out a mass email Friday that he was depressed about something. A Wheeling-Charleston Diocese spokesman says the email did not contain a specific threat but police later described it as a “credible threat.” They believed he could harm himself or others.

As a result, Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community and Technical College requested that all students and employees leave the main campus. Meanwhile, Marion County school officials locked down five Fairmont area schools. In both instances, school officials stressed that the steps were precautionary.

Pierpont held its commencement ceremony Friday evening as scheduled and FSU will hold its commencement Saturday.
