Hiram Lewis found not guilty

CLAY, W.Va. — A jury has found Hiram Lewis not guilty.

After deliberating for several hours Wednesday evening, a jury acquitted Lewis of the charges.

The defense rested Wednesday afternoon with Lewis, a former U.S. Senate candidate, being the only witness.

Lewis took the stand against the advice of his attorney. There was no rebuttal.

He was on trial for malicious wounding for allegedly shooting Stephen Bogart last June.

Lewis admitted to shooting Bogart in the knee, but claimed it was in self-defense.

The trial began on Tuesday in Clay County.
