State Police in Mineral County are seeking the public’s help after a man invaded the home of an elderly woman and severely beat her.

State Police Sgt. John Droppleman says finding the man responsible is the top priority of the Keyser detachment.

“I won’t say we take it personally but this is a case where an elderly person was beaten severely and we don’t understand why that even happened,” Droppleman said. “That individual wouldn’t have put up a fight to a young man. I don’t understand why he had to beat her. It doesn’t make sense.”

The man came to the 86-year-old woman’s New Creek house on the evening of Dec. 29. Sgt. Droppleman says he told her he worked for a utility company.

“She declined entry–so the individual forced his way in and proceeded to assault the victim,” Droppleman said. “The injuries were not life threatening but they were substantial. She took a pretty severe beating. We are all steadfast and we are going to be dedicated to catching these individuals.”

Anyone with any information on this case is asked to call Keyser State Police at 304-788-1101
