A West Virginia attorney was sentenced Thursday to federal prison for tax evasion.

Charles B. Mullins II, 52, of Daniels, was sentenced in court to 18 months behind bars for failing to pay more than $389,000 in taxes from 2006 to 2009.

Mullins also admitted that he owes the state public defender program $223,605 and Alabama-based Daniels Capital Corporation $184,030 by making false statements concerning the amount of work he did on court-appointed criminal defense work.

He plead guilty to the charges back in August of last year.

Along with his prison sentence, the court ordered Mullins to pay restitution in the amount of $780,146.51.

Mullins practiced law in Pineville, Wyoming County.
