The Hawks continue to set the standard for soccer in West Virginia as the UHS girl’s soccer team wins it’s second consecutive state championship. University defeated George Washington 2-0. All of the goals were scored in the first 15 minutes of the game.
UHS senior Ashley Ramsey scored the first goal six minutes into the match, then, nine minutes later Kate Ware scored the second and final goal of the game.
The win marks the fifth state championship in UHS head coach Ray Petrisin’s career. He won three state championships as the Morgantown High boy’s head coach and now has two with the University High girl’s team. Petrisin has experienced success before and says he’s very happy with what his team has accomplished.
"We’re grateful for winning a second state championship. They don’t come very often," Petrisin tells The Dominion Post. "Not everyone gets to win a state championship. It’s really something special."
The Hawks finish the season 23-1 and finish the past two seasons 46-1-2.
