Eastern Panhandle Report

It will be a rematch of last year’s first round playoff round when then #10 Morgantown traveled to the Eastern Panhandle to take on 7th ranked Martinsburg.  The Bulldogs won that game defeating the Mohigans by a score of 19-13.  This semi-final rematch should be one of the best games of the weekend.

Morgantown(11-1) at Martinsburg(12-0)

The Martinsburg Bulldogs for the second week in a row faced a opponent who
loved to run the football and had a outstanding running game.  Last week
the Bridgeport Indians were the opponent and the Bulldog defense faced
Corey Wagner who had rushed for over 2,000 yards in the season, Wagner
rushed for over 170 yards in the game but that was still below his average
as the Bulldog Defense gave up just 7 points in the game, while the
offense once again led by Brandon Ashenfelter, David Gladden and Cedric
Brown.  David Gladden who is not at 100 percent because of a ankle injury
was still to run for over 100 yards and scored 3 times including a 98 yard
kickoff return for touchdown, Brandon Ashenfelter threw for over 100 yards
and 2 scores both tosses to Cedric Brown who is now less than 150 yards
away from 1,000 yards receiving.  This week in the Semi-final round the
Bulldogs will face their toughest test in the Morgantown Mohigans.
Morgantown is coming off a impressive win over the Capital Cougars last
week.  Morgantown feature a great running tandem of Joey Musick and Chris
Glover.  Musick has rushed for 1,883 yards and has scored 22 touchdowns
and is averaging 9 yards a carry.  Chris Glover has rushed for over
800 yards and has scored 14 rushing touchdowns.  Quarterback Alex Watson
has not thrown the ball much just 57 times this season but when he has
Glover has been the target with another 273 yards and 5 TD’s as Glover is
averaging 18 yards per catch.  So even though Morgantown likes to run the
ball like the past two playoff opponents for Martinsburg, Morgantown can
and will throw the ball so the Bulldogs defense will be tested.
Martinsburg’s defense has only given up 98 points this season and a lot of
those points were given up after the game has been decided.  The one big
matchup to watch for will be the running game of Morgantown against the
outstanding Linebackers for Martinsburg Logan Jenkins and Markus Cook.
Martinsburg will be looking to get back to Wheeling for the first time
since 2006.  Gametime Saturday afternoon is at 1:30pm.
