Golden Tornado Blows Away Magnolia

Behind the play of senior forward Peyton Hartman, fifth-seeded Keyser bounced fourth-seeded Magnolia 59-54 in the final first-round game in the Class AA state tournament.

Hartman led the Golden Tornado with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

Magnolia built an early four-point lead, but poor shooting doomed the Blue Eagles.  Magnolia did not make a shot in the second quarter and fell behind 29-20.

At the break, the Blue Eagles were shooting only 5-26 from the field.  Good free throw shooting kept Magnolia within striking distance.  The Blue Eagles were 10-13 from the line in the first half.

Magnolia fought back in the third quarter, outscoring Keyser 22-9.  That brought the score to 42-38 at the start of the fourth quarter.

In the fourth, Magnolia got within two, but Keyser was able to knock down free throws and hold off the Blue Eagles for the win.

Jordan Moore scored 16 for the Blue Eagles.  He also brought down eight rebounds.  Mark Winters added 13 points and 12 boards.

The Golden Tornado will now face Oak Hill in the semifinal round on Friday.
