Marshall’s Allison Harper (Upper Arlington, Ohio) shot the low round of the day, carding a 73 and improving seven strokes from Monday to earn a two-day total of 153 (80-73=153) in the final round of the MSU Ocala Spring Invitational at Juliette Falls Golf Resort on Tuesday afternoon. Harper earned her fourth tournament top-10 finish of the season tying for eighth place.
The Thundering Herd shaved off nine strokes from its 315 first round score to jump ahead of Ohio University (312-312=624) for a third place finish (315-306=621).
Fellow freshman Rachel Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio) shot a 75 on day two to come within two strokes of Harper, and finish tied for 12th (80-75=155), her best collegiate finish.
MU’s first round leader Molly Ginger (Centerville, Ohio) joined Kaci Boyd (Ashland, Ky.) as each carded a 79 in second round action. Ginger had a 36 hole total of 156 (77-79=156), while Boyd improved six strokes for a combined 164 (85-79=164).
Morehead State maintained its first round lead to earn the tournament victory with a 594 (286-308=594). MSU’s Emma Jonsson and Paige Laursier grabbed first and second place finishes, respectively. Jonsson snuck away with a one stroke victory carding a 146 (69-77=146).
The Herd tees off the UC Spring Invitational on Friday, Mar. 25, with first round action at the Plantation Inn Golf Resort and Spa at 8:30 a.m., in Crystal River, Fla.
