Softball Treks to Miami Invitational

With a bye-week from Conference USA, the Marshall University softball team will travel to Oxford, Ohio, to play five games at the Miami Invitational beginning Friday at noon against Toledo.

The Herd is coming off a 3-2 win on Sunday against East Carolina, to carry an 11-15 record into the weekend while holding off on a 1-5 conference tally.

Marshall will face a field that includes tournament-host Miami (11-18), Purdue (16-7), Ball State (15-11) and Toledo (3-14).

Notable performances against the Pirates came from Rebecca Gamby, Natalee Pulver and Rachel Rillo. At the plate, Gamby recorded two home runs, her second being Sunday’s game-winning three-run homer that lifted the Herd to a 3-2 victory in the final game of the series.

In the circle, Pulver and Rillo combined to take down the ECU offense on Sunday as Pulver nabbed her fourth win of the season in 4.1 innings of work. Rillo closed the final 2.2 frames of the meeting to notch the save, her first of her career.
