Marshall University’s men’s golf team is tied for third place in a field of 16 teams after the first round of the UK Invitational in Lexington, Ky. The Thundering Herd tallied a 291 and is tied with Toledo, just one stroke back of Kentucky and only four strokes back of the tournament leader Auburn (287).
Marshall has three players in the tournament’s top 10 following the opening round. Aaron Boggs (So., Madison, W.Va.) is tied for fourth after firing a one-under par 70, Bosten Miller (Jr., Charleston, W.Va.) is tied for seventh after recording an even-par 71 and Christian Brand (Sr., Charleston, W.Va.) is tied for ninth with a first round 71.
Brian Anania (Fr., Hurricane, W.Va.) recorded a 78, while Nathan Kerns (So., Ironton, Ohio) carded a 79 in first round action for the Herd.
Auburn’s Dominic Bozzelli leads the field with a 67. Kentucky’s Chase Parker and Michigan State’s Dan Ellis are tied for second at 69, while Marshall’s Boggs is knotted with Akron’s Charlie Bull in fourth place at one under.
First round play was suspended due to rain at 11:20 a.m. and did not resume until 1:56 p.m. ET. Because of the delay, it is likely that the second round will not be completed by night fall. In the event the second round is not finished by tonight, play will resume with a shotgun start on Sunday. There will be no tee times for the third and final round and once a team has completed the second round they will immediately move to the next hole and begin the final round.
