No. 53 Marshall Wins Second-Consecutive 6-1 Decision, Tops Cincinnati

The No. 53 Marshall University tennis team swept through doubles and won singles 1-3, along with five and six to defeat the University of Cincinnati 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center.

The Thundering Herd breezed through first and second doubles with a pair of 8-1 victories. Michaela Kissell and Dominia Zaprazna defeated the team of O’Gara/Lonergan in first doubles to improve to 18-0, and will have a chance to finish the regular-season undefeated next weekend against Pittsburgh.

Catherine Kellner and Maria Voscekova also won 8-1 on court two against Witte/Slynko to move to 14-7 as a pairing in spring action. Kara Kucin and Karli Timko rounded out the doubles sweep with a slim 8-7 victory in the third spot over Ismail/Lee.

Moving to singles, Kissell won her second-consecutive match by a score of 6-1, 6-1 as she defeated Slynko on court one. Second singles saw Zaprazna win over Lee 6-3, 6-3, while Kellner was triumphant on court three 6-1, 7-6 over Lonergan. Kellner leads the team in singles victories with 17.

Despite the Herd losing on court four, Voscekova and Kucin were victorious in spots five and six with Voscekova defeated Ismail 5-7, 6-3, 10-8, and Kucin topping O’Gara 7-6, 6-2.

MU concludes it regular-season this coming Saturday at home as the Herd welcomes the University of Pittsburgh to the Brian David Fox Tennis Courts at 9 a.m.
