Softball Teams Gearing Up For WVIAC Tournament

Heading into the last weekend of the regular season, the WVIAC teams continue to jockey for positions at the WVIAC Tournament, which will be held Apr. 28-30 in Vienna, W. Va.

WV Wesleyan, ranked #19 in the latest national poll, leads the league in batting average (.337), ERA (1.91) and fielding percentage (.968).

WV State is second in the league in batting average at .335 while Concord sports a .314 average. The Bobcats are slugging at a rate of .535 while the Yellow Jackets are at .467 and CU is at .430.

The high-powered WVWC offense has scored 260 runs on 353 hits. WV State has plated 238 runs on a league-high 355 hits. Shepherd is third in both categories with 197 runs scored and 321 hits. The Bobcats have driven in 241 runners while the Yellow Jackets have driven home 217 runners.

Alderson-Broaddus leads the league with 60 doubles. Shepherd (56), WV State (52), Concord (52) and WV Wesleyan (51) round out the top five.

WV Wesleyan leads the WVIAC in triples (12) while Shepherd (11) and Ohio Valley (10) are both in double figures. The Bobcats have launched 44 round-trippers on the year, helping the team boast a league-high 560 total bases.

West Liberty leads the conference with 45 sacrifice bunts on the season and 66 stolen bases.

SU is second in team ERA at 2.29 while Charleston is third at 2.92. The Rams are holding opponents to a .220 batting average while WV Wesleyan (.225) and Davis & Elkins (.228) are just behind the league leader.

D&E has struck out 248 batters while WVWC is second at 245. UC is a close third with 244. WVSU has a conference-best four saves.

Fairmont State is second in fielding percentage at .962 while SU is third with .961. Seton Hill and A-B are tied with .956.

A-B and SU lead the conference, having turned 11 double plays.
