Miller, Ponn And Fees Earn Last WVIAC Weekly Awards

Ohio Valley’s Shayne Miller has been named the WVIAC Player of the Week while Charleston’s Tim Ponn and Pitt Johnstown’s John Fees were tabbed Co-Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday.

Miller helped OVU pick up two wins on the week. He went a combined seven-of-12 for a batting average of .583. He had three extra-base hits, all of which were home runs. Miller earned two base on balls, scored four runs and drove in nine on the week.

Ponn went out in fine style. After his team notched a run in the first and second innings, he worked through the Wheeling Jesuit line-up for the complete game effort. He gave up just two hits on the day, allowing just one run. He struck out five in the contest.

Fees helped UPJ secure the second seed in the North Division by tossing a complete game. In seven innings, he scattered six hits and giving up just one run. Fees struck out three and did not walk a batter against Davis & Elkins. He led UPJ to a 5-1 victory.
