I had the chance to speak with Marshall Athletic Director Mike Hamrick this week about the upcoming facilities upgrades in Marshall’s future, the vision for the athletic department and his plans for the future. Here’s some of the highlights:
-
Hamrick says the idea of upgrading facilities started the moment he arrived on campus. He says modern, up to date facilities are necessary for the athletic program to succeed.
-
Hamrick believes Marshall Alumni and fans are willing to step up and help make these facility upgrades a reality. He says he was able to raise the funds and build new facilities at ECU and UNLV and the same can be done at Marshall.
-
Hamrick felt the athletic program had become stagnant when he arrived in 2009. The facilities were aging and there had not been any new construction in several years. The athletic program really lacked a direction.
-
The best days of Marshall Athletics are ahead of us. Hamrick is confident the right decisions are being made and the proper people are in place to take the athletic department and university to the next level.
