Victor Gomez set a career record for doubles and games played Thursday night in Orlando as the Herd stomped UCF 6-0.
Gomez is now Marshall Baseball’s Iron Man, playing in his 215th career game, bypassing Josh Valle who played in 214 games between 2007 and 2010. Gomez also knocked his 47th career double to become The Herd’s all-time leader.
Had it not been for the record setting night for Gomez the spotlight would have been on the outstanding pitching performance turned in by a pair freshmen on the hill. UCF scratched out three hits in six innings against Aaron Blair. The right-hander fanned six and didn’t allow a baserunner past second.
Josh King closed out the game giving up just one hit during the final three frames.
Rhett Stafford went 3 for 3 at the plate with a homer and three RBI. Victor Ramos had a pair of singles and scored twice.
