It’s tough to look in the WVU record books and not find Jedd Gyorko’s name next to any offensive category. After spending three seasons at West Virginia, he became one of the most decorated hitters in school history and his success is continuing in the minor leagues.
Gyorko made the front page of BaseballAmerica.com because this past week he was named Baseball America’s No. 1 prospect for the week of May 13 to May 19th. The Padres third baseman prospect is hitting .392 on the season with 11 home runs and 43 RBIs.
This past week he went on a tear and recorded a .448 batting average with four home runs, 11 RBIs and nine runs scored. Gyorko is currently on a 16-game hitting streak and he may be on his way to the California League batting title. He is currently ranked second in the league in batting average.
