A pair of pitchers in Kyle Blank and Arik Sikula were recently named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team announced by the league office for the second consecutive season.
Blank, a native of Charleston, has maintained a 3.90 grade point average as he already graduated with a degree in finance and is pursuing his MBA. The lefty specialist of out of the Herd bullpen has been one of the most reliable arms, as he appeared in 25 games, tied for the team best.
Sikula, who earned the same distinct honor last season, owns a 3.82 grade point average as a management major. The right-hander became just the fourth pitcher in MU history to reach 200 strikeouts after fanning five in his final start at UCF over the weekend. Earlier in the season, he earned Conference USA Co-Pitcher of the Week honors, becoming the first pitcher ever at Marshall to earn the weekly league award. Sikula was also named to the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award list at the start of the 2011 season.
Both players were named 2011 Capital One Academic District 2 First Team members earlier this month.
