Marshall Hires Recruiting Expert

Marshall University has hired Jorge Fernandez as an assistant men’s basketball coach.  Fernandez comes to Huntington from the University of Miami where he gained a reputation as a strong recruiter.

Marshall head coach Tom Herrion expects Fernandez to help lure talent to Huntington.

“His wealth of experience as a college coach will help strengthen our staff and his contacts as a recruiter will only benefit our efforts as we continue to move our program forward,” Herrion said.

Rivals.com has named Fernandez one of the nation’s top 25 recruiters.

Fernandez has 18 years of coaching experience.  He spent the last seven years at Miami, four of those as Associate Head Coach.

Fernandez and Herrion have been friends for a long time, and Fernandez says he’s excited about joining the Herd.

Marshall is a program with great tradition,” Fernandez said. “I will do everything I can to help move forward and win a conference championship.”

Fernandez is a native of New York.  He moved to Miami as a youth and attended Stetson University.  He and his wife, Sol Maritza Casiano, have two daughters, Alexis and Olivia.
