Connecticut was the last Big East team left in college baseball’s NCAA tournament heading into Super Regional play. On Sunday, however, the Huskies were eliminated after falling to South Carolina 8-2. South Carolina also won the first game between the two teams 5-1 to sweep the best of three series and advance into the College World Series.
UConn was the only Big East team to advance out of the initial regional play — the second seeded Huskies upset Clemson to advance. St. Johns and Seton Hall, meanwhile, went just 1-2 apiece in regional action with neither team making it into Super Regional play.
The eight team College World Series begins on Saturday.
