Marshall running back Tron Martinez is facing charges of disorderly conduct and obstruction after an arrest Friday evening. Details of what led to his arrest have not been released, and Marshall football coach Doc Holliday (or anyone in the school’s athletic department) has not issued any comment.
The sophomore from Hampton, Va., was booked at Western Regional Jail at 6:50 p.m. Friday, then released at 8:40 p.m. on $3,100 bond.
Martinez is the Thundering Herd’s top returning running back with 262 yards on 78 carries and one touchdown in 2010. He started three games last season for Marshall. Martinez was considered Marshall’s starting running back heading into preseason practice.
This is the second time Martinez has tangled with the law. In April 2009, Martinez was charged with 11 felonies, including gang participation for an incident in Hampton, Va. He spent 21/2 months in jail and nearly nine months on home confinement before all but one misdemeanor charge was dropped.
