After day one of play at the Greenbrier Resort’s Meadow Course both Hurricane native Sam O’Dell and Oak Hill native Nathaniel Bagley are tied atop the leader board at 1-under par in the annual West Virginia Amateur.
O’Dell had a great first nine holes and made three birdies, four on the day and all of them came in the first ten holes. He, Bagley and Davey Fields will be the last to tee off on Wednesday at 1:24 p.m. Bagley made five birdies on the day, four of those came on the front nine.
O’Dell admits he hasn’t played the Meadows Course that much in the past, but he liked the way it played today.
"They made a lot of improvements and a lot of changes and it was actually in really good shape," said O’Dell on the MetroNews Statewide Sportsline. "It’s definitely a lot newer course than what we’re used to. All of the the Old White greens and the Greenbrier greens, it’s a little different being up in that tournament."
The second round of the four day tournament begins Wednesday morning. The winner of the West Virginia Amateur will get an exemption to play in the FedEx Cup’s Greenbrier Classic.
