Brand Wins The WV Amateur

For the first time in his career, Charleston native Christian Brand has won the 92nd annual West Virginia Amateur. Brand shot even overall and plus-1 in the final round.

The recent Marshall grad shot one over par on the Greenbrier’s Meadows Course on Thursday, which was good enough to give him a five stroke lead over Hurricane’s Sam O’Dell, who had shared the lead with Brand at the beginning of the day.

Brand shot 71 for the third time in the amateur. Finishing in a tie for second place were Fairmont native Jess Ferrell and Hurricane native Sam O’Dell at plus-9 overall.

Two other golfers who finished tied for fourth were Joey Seabright and Bryan Myers at plus-11 overall. Both of them are Wheeling natives.

Opening round leader Nathan Begley finished in a tie for 12th place. He finished the amateur at plus-1 overall.

With the win, Brand has earned an exemption to play in the PGA’s Greenbrier Classic later this summer at the Greenbrier Resort. Ferrell has earned an exemption to play in next year’s Greenbrier Classic because he defeated O’Dell in a playoff.
