Scouting the Bobcats
-
The Bobcats will have to adjust to life without half of the two-headed monster at quarterback with the departure of Boo Jackson. The other half of the quarterback pair left from last year is Phil Bates, but the running quarterback who led the Bobcats with 52 yards a game has been shifted to receiver/running back. That leaves the quarterback position to sophomore Tyler Tettleton who beat out redshirt freshman Kyle Snyder during spring practice. The Bobcats also lose their top running back Vince Davidson and top Wide Receiver Terrence McCrae, but do return all five starting offensive linemen from last year.
-
The Bobcats defense lost their entire front four from last year along with three quarters of their secondary. At linebacker they only lose one of their starters while returning All-MAC performer Noah Keller who sat out much of last season with an injury. They finished last year 8-5 and 6-2 in the Mid-American Conference which was good enough for second in the MAC east. The Bobcats offense ranked near the bottom the FBS at 95th while the defense finished a respectable 41st. Ohio finished off their winning campaign with a 48-21 loss to Troy in the New Orleans Bowl.
Notes
-
The Bobcats lead the all time series with the Thundering Herd 29-18-6. Marshall won last year’s meeting in Huntington 24-23 on a deflected two point conversion attempt by the Bobcats as time expired. Marshall also beat the Bobcats two years ago in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl 21-17. The last Ohio win in the series took place in 2000 on November 18th in Athens. The Bobcats won the matchup 38-28. The Herd has won 6 straight against the Bobcats including the meeting in Detroit in the Pizza Bowl. The Bobcats have won 2 of the last 14 meetings between the Ohio River rivals.
