2011 Marshall Football Radio Crew Announced

IMG, America’s home for college sports, has announced that the broadcast crew for this season’s Thundering Herd/IMG Sports Network football broadcasts will include Steve Cotton, Mark Martin, Adam Cavalier and Eric Matthews.

“IMG is excited to bring another season of Marshall Football to all its listeners,” said Jason Golden, General Manager Marshall Thundering Herd Sports Marketing. “Given the level of experience of this crew, Herd fans will be treated to a broadcast that is of the highest quality.”

Steve Cotton returns for his 19th season on the Marshall radio crew and 16th year as the Herd’s play-by-play announcer. The University of Florida alumnus enters his 26th year calling intercollegiate football, basketball and baseball, and is also the host of the Doc Holliday and Tom Herrion Call-in Shows.

This season, Mark Martin moves from the sidelines up to the broadcast booth as he takes on the role of color analyst. The sports director at WCHS-TV and WVAH-TV, Martin has been a staple in the West Virginia sports scene since his boyhood days in Ripley, W.Va. A former football player for Marietta College, Martin is a member of the Ripley High School Football Hall of Fame and in 2009 received the Associated Press Lifetime Achievement Award for his broadcast work.

Two-time Marshall alumnus Adam Cavalier returns for his second season producing and hosting the Tailgate Show, which starts the Herd’s gameday coverage two hours prior to each kickoff. A highly decorated broadcaster, Cavalier’s honors include winning the 2009 Jim Nantz Award as the top student sportscaster in America. This season Cavalier also adds duties as the crew’s on-site engineer and will appear on the weekly Doc Holliday Call-in Show.

Rounding out the crew is a new addition to this year’s broadcast lineup, studio host Eric Matthews. A recent graduate of Western Kentucky University, where he served as a member of WKU’s Big Red Radio Network, Matthews will provide listeners with scoreboard updates and other information throughout the broadcasts.

This year’s coverage will begin with the season’s first Doc Holliday Call-in Show Thursday evening, September 1st. The weekly program originates from Gino’s Pub and the Family Fun Center at 2501 Fifth Avenue in Huntington and runs from 7:05-8:00.

On Sunday afternoon, September 4th, the Tailgate Show will begin at 1:30 p.m., leading up to the 3:30 kickoff of Marshall’s season opener against West Virginia University in the Friends of Coal Bowl.
