Falcons Win, Glenville State Falls

Fairmont State defeated visiting Clarion Thursday night to open up the 2011 football season out of the WVIAC.  The Falcons won the contest 31-17 after Matt Wilmer set the tone early with a 93-yard punt return for a touchdown in the first quarter. 

Later, an 87-yard touchdown run from Daniel Monroe in the fourth quarter put the game away for Fairmont State.  Wilmer’s return was the longest punt return in school history, and Monroe’s dash was the seventh-longest carry in school history.

Overall, Monroe led the Falcons with 18 carries for 161 yards and two touchdowns.

Also on Thursday evening, Glenville State fell to Carson-Newman 45-20 despite forcing four first half turnovers.
