Big 12 interim commissioner Chuck Neinas said he is giving Missouri as much time as it needs to decide whether to stay in the Big 12 or make the jump to the SEC. He said they could wait until the end of this academic year, if necessary.
“There’s no timetable,” Neinas told reporters. “Everything is in place. We’re preparing for 2012. We’ll see what occurs.”
Neinas also added that regardless of what Missouri does, the Big 12 will be a 10-team league in 2012 with both Missouri and new member TCU. There hasn’t be a consensus from league members as to whether or not to eventually go to 12 teams or stay at 10 teams.
CBSSports.com, meanwhile, is reporting that Louisville is first on the conference wish list if it eventually needs to add a member. If it needs to add more than one, West Virginia would be another strong candidate, according to the report.
