Herd Plays Host To ECU

Marshall will play four of its final six regular season men’s basketball games at home beginning with a game Saturday against East Carolina at 7 p.m.

The contest will be televised on WSAZ in Huntington and WITN in Greenville, N.C. with Keith Morehouse and Tony Casticone calling the action.

The Thundering Herd (14-10, 5-5 C-USA) has done well at home so far this season with a 10-3 record including a 3-1 mark in Conference USA games. Marshall is coming off a 67-60 loss at UCF which ended a strand of five-of-seven games away from the Cam Henderson Center.

The weekend is a special one at Marshall as nearly 100 former men’s basketball players will be in attendance on Saturday, a day after taking part in the Veterans Memorial Field House Finale. The group, including NBA great Hal Greer, will be recognized at halftime.

Senior point guard Damier Pitts moves up Marshall’s all-time scoring chart week-by-week. Next on the list for Pitts to pass happens to be Greer who scored 1,377 points during his time at Marshall. With Pitts at 1,364 career points following an 18-point output at UCF Wednesday, he is just 13 points shy of tying the 10-time NBA All-Star for 18th on the all-time list.

ECU (12-11, 3-7 C-USA) is coming off a 70-59 loss to Memphis on Wednesday which snapped a three-game winning streak. The Pirates are led by junior guard Miguel Paul who is ranked 34th in the nation in assists with a conference leading mark of 5.6. Paul is also ranked fifth in C-USA in scoring with 15.8 points per game.

Marshall leads the all-time series 11-5 including a 7-1 mark in games at home. The Herd has won six of the past seven meetings including the last one, a 78-56 win in Greenville last season.

Along with the television broadcast, the game can be heard throughout the Thundering Herd Radio Network. Livestats and live video can be accessed on HerdZone.com.
