Martinsburg Survives A Scare

The eighth-seeded Logan Wildcats put a scare in the top-seeded Martinsburg Bulldogs, but in the end the Bulldogs advanced to the Class AAA state semifinals winning 63-50.

It’s an evenly matched game for two teams that weren’t so even in the seedings. The Bulldogs and the Wildcats went back and forth in the first half and Martinsburg ended up with a five-point lead heading into halftime.

MHS would be paced by both Brandon Ashenfelter and guard Adonijah Gilmore who combine to scored 18 of Martinsburg’s 30 points in the first half.

In the second half, Logan fought back. The Wildcats regained the lead in the middle of the third quarter, but it was short lived. Then the Bulldogs regained the led and were able to hold on to it despite multiple comeback attempts by the Wildcats.

The Leading scorer in the game for Martinsburg was Ashenfelter with 26 points. Leading the Wildcats in scoring was Stevie Browning with 24.

The Bulldogs advance to the Class AAA state semifinals to face the winner of the Fairmont Senior/George Washington game on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
