In a tournament full of upsets, the seventh-seeded Hedgesville Eagles knocked off the sixth-seeded Parkersburg Big Red in the Class AAA state semifinals 62-36.
The final game of the day was probably the slowest paced game of the day. Hedgesville controlled the tempo for the majority of the game and slowed things down. It worked to their advantage since the game stayed close in the first half.
The Big Red led at halftime 15-14, but Hedgesville took the lead and grew it to over ten points towards the end of the third quarter.
The game got out of control at that point and the Eagles scored at will against the Big Red and complete their upset win against Parkersburg.
The leading scorer for the Eagles was QJ Peterson with 28 points. Devin Hoehn led all Big Red scorers with 13 points.
The Eagles will face defending state champion George Washington in the Class AAA State Championship game at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday night.
