The Thundering Herd has picked up an outside sharp shooter thanks to a coaching change at Southern Miss.
D.D. Scarver has signed his National Letter of Intent to play for the Thundering Herd. The 6’ 4” shooting guard had committed to play for the Golden Eagles, but reopened the recruiting process once Larry Eustachy took the head coaching job at Colorado State.
“We are really excited to add a quality player like D.D. this spring,” Head Coach Tom Herrion said. “He had a tremendous season for coach Pat Smith at Trinity Valley this year.”
Scarver has played the last two seasons at Trinity Valley Community College where he was named the NJCAA Region XIV Player of the Year. He averaged 24.1 points per game to lead the region while Trinity Valley compiled a 21-9 record.
“He has terrific offensive abilities and can really shoot the basketball,” continued Herrion. “He comes from a winning culture and will be a great asset to go with our core of returning players
Scarver shot 43 percent from the field, 36 percent from three-point range and was an 83 percent free-throw shooter. Scarver will join The Herd as a sophomore and have two seasons of eligibility.
Scarver joins Kareem Canty, Elijah Pittman and Tamron Manning as players that have signed for the 2012-13 season.
