Remembering The Miners At The Greenbrier

When Bob Huggins walked into the media room at the Greenbrier Classic he was immediately surrounded by reporters and photographers, but instead of talking basketball or golf he wanted to talk about "Remember The Miners".

Huggins is the Founding Honorary Chairman for “Remember The Miners," an organization that raises the awareness of coal mining in the state of West Virginia. The group partnered with the Greenbrier Classic in its badges for charity program, which passes a percentage of all proceeds from the badges to the organization.

“We just want to create awareness to what those people give to us on a day to day basis,” said Huggins.

The Mountaineer head coach said this tournament has helped out their organization and they appreciate everything Greenbrier owner Jim Justice has done for West Virginia.

“Jim does an absolutely phenomenal job and Jim has been very instrumental in helping “Remember The Miners” through this golf outing,” said Huggins. “I’ve got great respect for Jim and great respect for how much he loves this state.”

“I think if there is anybody who loves West Virginia it’s Jim Justice,” continued Huggins. “We’re going to be on national television for two days. That’s what I try to do. I try to get us (WVU) on national television so everyone can see the West Virginia across our guys’ chests.”

All of the money “Remember The Miners” raises from the Greenbrier Classic will stay in West Virginia. It will go towards scholarships for students who want to pursue careers in the coal mining business.

“I want to keep my efforts and my energy focused on something that is really going to help out our state.”
