Another epic challenge is complete for one 17 year veteran of the West Virginia State Police
Not even a stomach bug could stop First Sergeant Ron Arthur from reaching his destination at Joan C. Edwards Stadium in Huntington Thursday night, a day earlier than expected.
Arthur started the second day of his journey at the Big Otter exit on I-79 around 5 Thursday morning. He jumped on the bike and started the last 75 miles of his bike ride to Hurricane.
By 12 p.m. Arthur was riding his bike past the Cross Lanes exit and at 2 p.m. he was off his bike and beginning the 41 mile run from Hurricane to Huntington.
Arthur told 58-WCHS that he was getting a little road weary and delirious.
At just past 3 p.m., Arthur was within six miles of the stadium and going strong. At around 4:30 Arthur had reached the stadium and completed his journey, the "Almost Heaven Epic Challenge."
In the end, Arthur had swam five miles, rode a bike 191 miles, and ran 41 miles for a total of 237 miles. All while battling a stomach bug.
Arthur said he is truly a blessed man and he is thankful for what God has done in his life.
It was all in hopes of raising awareness for Type-1 juvenile diabetes. The same illness his 6-year-old daughter Madi was diagnosed with just three months ago.
All the money raised during the challenge will go to support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
