Beer to be Sold at WVU Coliseum

The suds will be flowing at West Virginia University basketball home games this year.

WVU officials announced Thursday that beer will be offered in the Statler Club Lounge area in the Coliseum during the upcoming basketball season.  The lounge area will also have an expanded food and beverage menu, and updated big-screen TVs.

WVU officials said there will be no beer sales in the general concession and seating area.  Previous media reports indicated restroom limitations were the reason for restricting access to beer.  No beer will be permitted outside the Statler Club area.

Beer sales will begin about 90 minutes before tipoff and end at the conclusion of halftime.  Patrons will be limited to two beers per purchase.

WVU Athletic Director says sales at Milan Puskar Stadium have been successful.  He says sales at football games have "allowed us to look at other licensed venues where we might offer the same service.  We believe the Statler Club area, because it is restricted to Club patrons, is a suitable environment."
