Former West Virginia forward Kevin Jones was among three players waived by the Cleveland Cavaliers during the weekend as the team pared its roster down to 15.
The 6-foot-8 Jones appeared in two preseason games and averaged 2.5 rebounds in 9.0 minutes per game. He did not attempt a shot.
Jones signed a three-year, $2.2 million rookie free-agent deal on Sept. 9 — of which $50,000 was guaranteed with another $450,000 due this season had he made the Cavs roster.
After leading the Big East in scoring (19.9) and rebounds (10.9) last season, Jones went unselected in the June draft as he suffered from a foot injury. The Cavs’ roster currently includes forwards Luke Harangody, Luke Walton, Omri Casspi, Jon Leuer and Alonzo Gee.
Forward/center Micheal Eric and guard D’Aundray Brown also were released this weekend, Cavaliers General Manager Chris Grant announced.
