The top-seeded and nationally ranked West Virginia women’s soccer team lost to TCU, 2-0 in the quarterfinal round of the Big 12 soccer championship Wednesday night.
The loss was the first in conference play for the Mountaineers (11-4-4), who captured the regular season championship going 7-0-1 in league play. The loss also snapped WVU’s 13-match unbeaten streak.
WVU returns home from Texas to await its NCAA Tournament bid. The women’s soccer selections will be disclosed Monday at 4:30 p.m.
TCU scored on a pair of corner kicks, one by midfielder Monica Alvarado in the 11th minute and another by defender Kelly Johnson late in the match.
The Mountaineers outshot TCU 25-12 and had a 9-6 edge in corner kicks.
