Man charged with injuring WVU wrestler waives hearing

The man charged with causing severe damage to a WVU wrestler’s face by throwing a beer bottle last month waived his preliminary hearing Monday.

Samuel Heavey, 22, of Marion, Mass. was arrested last month and charged with malicious wounding.  Police say Heavey threw a beer bottle that hit Christian Chirico, 20, in the face.

Chirico received 38 stitches and had serious injuries to his face.  He’s since been recovering.

The incident started as a snowball fight on High Street that may have escalated.

Heavey’s case now moves forward to the grand jury.
