Sweet voice takes Logan Walmart clerk to new heights

What started as singing for enjoyment in the checkout line at the Logan Walmart continues to lead a young Logan County woman on an unbelievable adventure.

Kayla Slone loves to sing.   She loves it so much, she often sings for customers in her checkout line.  One day a customer videotaped her with their phone and posted the song to the Internet.   The song went viral and led to more videos, more songs, and eventually the national TV shows came calling.

Tuesday, Kayla was in New York City to appear on Anderson Cooper Live   She laughed with the host about being in the Big Apple for the first time and noted it was certainly different from Logan.  She and Cooper chatted about her visit to Time Square and the infamous NYC taxi drivers.

Cooper also asked about her husband who works in the coal mines of Logan County.

“That’s why I want my career and my dream come true so I can take care of him and get him out of the mines,” she told Cooper when he inquired about whether she worried.

During the visit, country singer Dierks Bentley called the show and gushed about Kayla’s voice.

“We should sing together sometime,”  he said.

“Well come and get me!!!,” said Kayla who added she was a fan of him.

Bentley went on to invite Kayla and a guest to the ACM Awards in Las Vegas in April as his personal guest.   She’ll also be attending the pre-award party hosted by Bentley and various after show parties in Vegas.
