One hospitalized after belt fire in Boone County

MADISON, W.Va. — A belt fire that occurred Thursday morning at a Boone County mining operation sent a firefighter to the hospital.

The blaze was reported about 12:50 a.m. at the Hobet Mine. A spokesperson for the state Office of Miners’ Health, Safety, and Training said the fire was on an overland belt at the operation.

No mine workers were injured. The fireman was transported to the hospital after suffering heat exhaustion.

An investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
