Fayette County man sentenced on a child pornography charge

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. A wanted Fayette County pedophile who failed to appear for a sentencing hearing on a child pornography charge is heading to prison.

According to U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin’s office, 34-year-old Brett David Bowyer, of Scarbro, was sentenced Monday to a maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison.

In October 2011, Bowyer pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography.

The release stated that on Sept. 17, 2010, Bowyer knowingly possessed on his computer more than 600 pictures and videos of children having sex or performing sexual acts.

Bowyer received and shared the images and videos using a peer-to-peer file sharing program called LimeWire, the release said.

Bowyer failed to appear for a previous sentencing in Bluefield on May 30, 2010. He was later arrested in Florida on June 12, 2012, thanks to a traffic stop.

Bowyer was indicted June 18 by a federal grand jury in Huntington for failing to appear for his May sentencing hearing. He faces up to an additional five years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted.
